"I was impressed with the ideas that were generated when we were at a stand still. It's refreshing to work with the Slash/Web team."

The Team

Brett Burkhart

While studying architecture in college, I developed an interest in the use of digital media to convey ideas to others in a way that couldn't quite be done verbally. How could I get people involved in a way that would allow them to have their own personal experience by interacting with the designs? I began to explore digital methods of communication, such as web applications, media presentations, and interactive interfaces as a means of demonstration.

My interest as a designer, is to use any applicable form of media that allows a user to understand and interact with the design, whether it be web, animation, physical art, or printed media.

The satisfaction I receive from seeing a client's reaction to a piece I've designed for them, fuels me to improve my skills and keep creating!

A love for ideas and problem solving. This is the driving force behind my web-development and design. I enjoy listening to client's vision for their business, and in turn feel like part of their team! I like to have a foundation of understanding to build my designs upon. Whether it's a new logo or complete branding package, I'm interested in bringing new ideas to life.

Driven by self-education, I thrive on learning new skills and pushing the envelope when it comes to trying new things! I have a passion for clean design and as a result use "CSS" for presentation of website designs. I like taking challenging designs and applying the proper code to display the final product in a way that looks and feels great and will stand up to the latest of Web-Standards.

Did I mention I have fun? I love working on projects like the ones listed on this site! That makes a huge difference when it comes to client relationships. If the job and process is fun then everything just works better.

Oooo....pretty picture. Look, point, get the message. Since I was about 3 feet tall, I'd stare at the hundreds of colors and designs of logo's as they'd pass by, whether in a grocery store, in the car, or on my own pop bottle. It was a way that I received communication best. Now following my love of colors and shape, my job is not only to solve a problem for you for a site or concept, but I'm here to help you make it look good. After getting to know a little about you and with some tech savvy goodness, our opportunities are endless.

What can a website really do for my business?

Picture this scenario if you will: You hire a sales employee, and they work 40 hours a week for you, and you pay them $40,000 a year for the 2,080 hours they've worked. That leaves 6,680 hours of time that he/she is doing nothing to promote and sell your business. When your salesperson goes to sleep at night, the marketing force of your company is non-existent. Your website costs a fraction of an employee's salary, yet it works every hour of every day to grow your business. A website is not an expense, it's the cheapest triple overtime, top-selling salesperson you'll ever hire! Studies all over have shown that people are turning to the internet to research a company before they decide to contact or do business with them. What are people finding when they look for your company online?

What's in the name?

Much like the extension of a domain name, before SlashWeb Studios came into being, we were the graphics department for a local architecture firm called The Architectural Edge. We tossed around the idea that the web design studio was an extension of the architecture firm, so we thought about ourselves as being TheArchitecturalEdge/WebStudio. Over a period of about 2 years, we produced major marketing products and designs for clients under the umbrella of The Architectural Edge. As our business and workload consistently grew, we joked that it might make more sense to people if we we made ourselves known as the seperate marketing and web design firm that we were functioning as.

You can edit your own website

Let us put it this way, if you're a home builder, but you hire someone to build your personal house, then you haven't taken advantage of what's available to you. The same goes for your website. If you're comfortable with the internet and your computer as the tools they are, then paying someone everytime you want to change an item on your website is not taking advantage of the tools that are available to you. With the ability to update your site's information yourself, the cost of maintaining your website is extremely low.

There is a clear trend that we are noticing with our clients, that people want the ability to edit their own websites, and we see no reason why they can't do just that. We design websites inside of a content management system, which allows us to give a client access to change the unique content on each page of the site, without the risk of breaking the design of the site.

What is different about Slash/Web?

Slash/Web studios is focused on involving you in the design and editability of your new website, both during and after its launch. We don't believe in dinging your pocketbook for every little change you make to your website. A major key to the success and usefulness of your website is keeping it current with what your company is doing and where it's going. If you have to pay someone a ton of money every year out of your marketing budget just to keep your site updated, chances are you'll tend to let things lapse and become outdated, which tells users that your company doesn't value the customers that find you through your website. We want your company to capture those potential customers, and we'll tailor a website to accomplish your business' individual objectives.
